New U2 song ‘Invisible’ to premiere in Superbowl ad

The release of the new song is part of a new campaign to benefit the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.

“Invisible,” a new track by rock band U2, will premiere in a joint Bank of America and (RED) commercial which will air during the Superbowl, according to Billboard.

For the first 24 hours after its premiere, the song will be available as a free download on iTunes. Bank of America will donate $1 for each of the first 2 million downloads to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The money will also go to life-saving treatment, and testing and preventative services.

“Bank of America coming on as a (RED) partner to help the Global Fund’s efforts to eliminate AIDS is great news,” said Bono in a prepared statement. Bono co-founded (RED) in 2006. Since that time (RED) has generated donations totaling more than $240 million for the Global Fund. In addition to the iTunes downloads, the band, (RED) and Bank of America expect to generate another $10 million for the fund.

“It’s the kind of game-changing influence that will not just deliver millions of dollars but raise consciousness and keep public pressure on putting an end to this devastating pandemic which has already taken the lives of 35 million people,” the statement continued.

(RED) focuses its disease-fighting efforts specifically in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia.

The track is the first release off the band’s forthcoming album — their first album since coming under the management of Guy Oseary. U2’s last album was 2009’s “No Line on the Horizon.”

The band’s song “Ordinary Love” that was composed for “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” a biopic about the late South African leader, is nominated for an Academy Award for best original song.

The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks face off in the Superbowl, which airs Sunday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. EST on FOX.
