'Wolverine' actor Hugh Jackman will be commanding the role of the pirate Blackbeard in the Warner Brothers 2015 live-action movie 'Pan'.

Jackman will be taking on the role of notorious pirate Blackbeard for the Warner Bros.’ 2015 picture Pan.  According to MTV,  there has yet to be a decision on who will play the lead as Peter Pan.  However, Friday Night Lights star Garrett Hedlund has reportedly been in talks for the role of Captain Hook.

Joe Wright, the director who brought audiences Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, will be at the head of Pan, which is set to open in theatres July 17, 2015, according to Variety.  While the film’s current name is Pan, the movie in fact does not yet have an official title, MTV reports.  It was also reported by Variety that Warner Brothers apparently first approached Javier Bardem when considering someone for the role of Blackbeard, but Bardem passed on the part.

Jackman may have played some darker characters in past films, such as the Wolverine and Prisoner, but the X-Men star has yet to play a true villain in the script.  The newest Wolverine film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, will be hitting theatres this summer and it may be the last time Jackman plays Wolverine on the screen.

“It may be the last,” the Australian actor said in an interview with MTV.  “By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted ‘The Wolverine’ and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it.  Who knows? Maybe.’ So I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on.”
