Justin Bieber busted in bid for badassery

It's the brash pop star's second run-in with police in less than a month

Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami early this morning for allegedly drag racing through a residential neighborhood while under the influence of alcohol, according to Miami police. Officer nabbed Bieber at around 4 a.m. not long after leaving a nightclub, according to reports.

UPDATE: ABC News confirms that the driver of the second car, a red Ferrari, has been identified as the R&B singer known as Khalil

“When the cars are going that fast, it takes awhile to catch up,” Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez told the Miami Herald, whose officers heard the racing in the distance.

After being removed from his rented yellow Lamborghini, Bieber was reportedly given a field sobriety test, which he failed. Bieber, 19, is not of legal age for consuming alcohol in the state of Florida. Though his BAC has not been reported, Florida has a “zero tolerance” policy for underage drinking and driving, meaning any BAC of .02 or higher renders him eligible for a DUI. Depending on a wide range of factors, just one drink could be enough to achieve a .02 BAC.

For a first DUI offense, there is no minimum sentence and a maximum of six months, a fine of $250 to $500, and 50 hours of community service. For anyone under 21, there is an automatic six-month license suspension. The drag racing charges could net Bieber up to six months in jail, a fine up to $1,000 and an automatic license suspension of six months, if convicted.

“Kid needs help,” police spokesperson Bobby Hernandez said, per the Miami New Times. Hernandez said the pop star’s entourage blocked traffic in the area so the singer could have space to speed.

Bieber has had a rough 2014 already. Earlier this month, police searched the singer’s home on the heels of reports that he was involved in an egg-throwing event of vandalism, which reportedly caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to his neighbor’s home. This also isn’t his first brush with the law while behind the wheel: In October of 2013, Bieber was detained (but ultimately not charged) after a neighbor complained of him driving recklessly through their California neighborhood.

Just this week, RadarOnline posted what are believed to be a series of text messages between Bieber and on again, off again girlfriend Selena Gomez. After Gomez allegedly spurned Bieber’s attempts at reconciliation (along with some intimate photos) by referring to him as a “drug addict,” Bieber ended the conversation by insinuating that Gomez’s lady parts were “talentless.”

Prior to the arrest, Bieber was having a pretty swell time in Miami. Highlights include him spending a reported $75k (in $1 bills, no less) at the King of Diamonds strip club, and receiving an allegedly unauthorized police escort by marked Opa-locka PD squad cars.
