Country singer Trace Adkins checks into rehab after 12 years of sobriety

Tractors and cruise ships

After an unfortunate brawl between a Trace Adkins impersonator and the real Trace Adkins on a cruise ship this past week, country star Trace Adkins has checked himself into rehab.

According to the New York Daily News, the 52-year-old country singer was aboard a music-themed cruise ship when he came head to head with his own impersonator, who was performing karaoke on the ship, at the time of the altercation.

Prior to the maritime brawl, Trace had been without any negative alcohol-related incidents for some time. The singer had been sober from alcohol for over a decade. Twelve years to be exact. It appears that while on the ship, he had relapsed and was acting in a manner that reflected that state. That’s when he entered choppy waters.

Trace was scheduled to perform on the Country Cruising trip that left Miami and was headed for Ocho Rios, Jamaica; but his plans changed when the situation became hostile. Upon arriving in Jamaica, Trace was ushered off to rehab, where he is now seeking treatment for the illness he has battled for so many years.

The New York Daily News reports that the “Celebrity Apprentice” winner had previously checked into rehab in 2002, after getting into a tractor incident. And now, it’s a cruise ship.

“The program was an extremely positive experience for me,” Adkins told CMT in 2003. “This is something I needed to do for myself, my family and my career. I feel the best I’ve felt in years, both physically and mentally.”

According to People Magazine, his rep reported: “Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family’s privacy will be respected.”

Trace Adkins is a major star in the country music world. He’s proven he can be a super star in his personal life.

Hey, it wouldn’t be country without a little heartache and drama!
