The pair tweets scathing remarks
During the Golden Globes ceremony, another award show for Woody Allen not to attend, Mia Farrow tweeted some disparaging remarks about the 78-year-old writer-director-actor and his scandalous behavior during their 12-year relationship. Estranged son, Ronan, joined his mom, for the attack.
Right before the Cecil B. Demille Award segment honoring Woody Allen began, Mia tweeted “Time to grab some ice cream & switch over to #GIRLS.” A swift jab at the former partner/longtime collaborator, who cast Mia Farrow as his leading lady in thirteen of his films from 1982 to 1992. The dynamic pair spent twelve years together, though they never married and continued to live in separate homes.
The split occurred when Woody Allen became involved with Farrow’s adopted daughter from another marriage, Soon-Yi Previn, in 1992. Mia Farrow famously discovered some nude Polaroids Allen had taken of Farrow’s daughter, when she was under-age and the historically dramatic unraveling of their relationship started there. The discovery came about when Soon-Yi was twenty years old, but it was rumored that the relationship had been going on for much longer than that. The event spurred a bitter custody battle during which another of Mia’s adopted daughters, Dylan, accused the director of molesting her, as well. Dylan later repeated the allegation in an interview with Vanity Fair.
In 1997, Woody and Soon-Yi married, becoming a legally recognized couple. The couple has two children together: Bechet Dumaine Allen and Manzie Tio Allen, both girls. While Allen and Soon-Yi’s children are very much a part of the director’s life and share his last name, Ronan has instead has chosen to take on his mother’s last name, Farrow, despite widespread whispers that he may not even be Woody Allen’s actual son. In a recent response to allegations that Ronan may in fact be the son of Frank Sinatra, Ronan tweeted, “Listen, we’re all *possibly* Frank Sinatra’s son.” When asked if this could be true, Mia responded, “Possibly.”
This clear demarcation of sides between Allen and Farrow’s camps took place from the moment it became clear that Woody was seeing his wife’s adopted daughter, Soon-Yi. The feud has been going on ever since.
Last night, Woody’s estranged son, Ronan sounded off on Twitter: “Missed the Woody Allen tribute. Did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?” Clearly, Ronan is disgruntled over the public acclaim received by Woody, despite his accused personal drama off-camera.
In an interview with Reuters magazine, Allen was quoted as saying, “What was the scandal? I fell in love with this girl, married her. We have been married for almost 15 years now.” He went on to say, “There was no scandal, but people refer to it all the time as a scandal and I kind of like that in a way because when I go I would like to say I had one real juicy scandal in my life.”
Mia Farrow’s comment has been retweeted over 1300 times since last night, but the Globes, his viewers, and his peers seem to share a different view of Woody.
The sheer volume of his impeccable work and Woody’s incredible influence on the world of cinema eclipses any sort of personal or relationship drama Allen may have experienced.
His work speaks for itself, (or Diane Keaton does), even when Woody Allen is not present.
