The couple are separating after three years of marriage but will remain friends.
Singer and actress Hilary Duff, 26, and her husband Mike Comrie, 33, are separating after three years of marriage, reports the Huffington Post.
A representative for the couple confirmed the information via HuffPost Celebrity. “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives,” said the rep. “They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”
A People Magazine source indicated that the pair simply grew apart.
“”There was no major incident -– no big event between the two of them,” said the source. “”They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends.”
Their commitment was apparent in a tweet Duff posted to Twitter on Friday, Jan. 10. “Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness [and] well wishes. Not an easy day but we’re getting [through] it together.”
The couple will co-parent their young son together.
Comrie, a former hockey player, is an heir to Canada’s Brick furniture company. The couple married in August 2010. Duff gave birth to their son, Luca Cruz, in March 2012.
The couple’s last public outing occurred as recently as New Year’s Eve. Duff shared an image on her Instagram account of the couple dolled up to bring in the new year. That afternoon, the family was spotted playing together at a park.
