Coroner’s report: Paul Walker died before the Porsche caught fire

The report reveals that the Porsche driven by the actor and a friend was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour when it crashed.

Actor Paul Walker, 40, and his friend Roger Rodas, 38, died shortly after the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT the two were traveling in crashed into a tree, then a light post and another tree, before bursting into flames on November 30, according to CNN.

Details surrounding the deaths were confirmed by a 15-page final coroner’s report released Friday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The Porsche, according to the coroner’s report, was traveling at “approximately 100+ mph” when it crashed.

“For unknown reasons, the driver [Rodas] lost control of the vehicle,” the coroner’s report said. “The vehicle partially spun around, and began to travel in a southeast direction.”

The report continues, “The vehicle then struck a sidewalk and the driver’s side of the vehicle struck a tree and then a light post. The force of those collisions caused the vehicle to spin 180 degrees, and it continued to travel in an easterly direction. The passenger side of the vehicle then struck a tree and the vehicle burst into flames.”

A security tape retrieved by CNN suggests that one minute passed between the vehicle crash and the eruption of flames.

“Scant soot” found in Walker’s trachea suggests he died before the Porsche caught fire. The actor also suffered several fractures to his body. The report noted fractures to his spine, ribs, pelvis, collarbone, right wrist, left jawbone and left arm. The actor’s body was badly burned.

Rodas died swiftly from “severe blunt head, neck and chest trauma,” according to the report.

Walker and Rodas, who were racing team partners, were leaving a charity event held at a car shop owned by the pair when the accident occurred. The crash happened in the Santa Clarita, 30 miles north of Hollywood.

The actor was well-known for his role in the “Fast & Furious” franchise. Walker was filming the seventh installment of the movie series at the time of his death.

The coroner’s report did not reveal if Walker and Rodas were wearing seat belts.
