The DreamTab will feature branded content designed for education and entertainment
Have you ever let your child play with your iPad or Android tablet, maybe as a distraction on long car rides, or while waiting in the doctor’s office? Well, DreamWorks thinks you’re a bad parent. To remedy that, they’ve announced plans to develop and launch an 8″ Android tablet just for junior, at this time known as the “DreamTab.” You’re welcome, says Dreamworks, for now having yet another trinket for which your child may extort you.
Though there are already plenty of tablets on the market that cater to users with smaller hands, DreamWorks believes their preloaded content will be what makes their product unique. The content will come as special DreamWorks apps, and the company intends to push out regular updates, be they new characters or new educational tasks based around its existing animated films and programs.
Nothing says “education” like thinly-veiled advertising paid for by you, the consumer. DreamWorks is the creator of the popular “Shrek” and “Kung Fu Panda” franchises, so the appeal to children has huge potential.
To increase functionality, the DreamTab will have a mode that allows it to operate just like any other Android tablet, though the primary focus will be education and entertainment for youngsters.
Planned to debut at the January 7 CES, reports say that the 8″ DreamTab will cost under $300, though a 12″ model is said to be in the works. In order to maximize their chances of profiting off your desire to please your children, DreamWorks also intends to produce a whole host of accessories, including branded bumper guards and headphones.
Fuhu, the company working with DreamWorks to develop the DreamTab, is something of a specialist in the realm of child-focused computing devices. Fuhu already makes a special Disney version of its nabi 2 tabletwhich features exclusive content and characters from the film and animation studio.
The DreamTab is slated to go on sale this Spring. As a reminder, there are just 354 shopping days left until Christmas.
