Kind-hearted burglar sacks 32 homes in order to feed cats fresh fish, chicken.
It’s said that parents will do anything for their children. The same is apparently true for some cat owners, who are well documented as reasonable and not at all ridiculous all around the internet. Case in point, one Japanese man went on a year-long burglary spree, accumulating a haul of over $185,000 worth of loot. His reason? The man cares for over 120 cats, feeding them gourmet cat food, sometimes to the tune of $250 per day.
Mamoru Demizu, 48, is suspected of breaking into houses to steal cash and jewels on 32 separate occasions. He told police he embarked on the crime spree to feed his numerous feline companions. He also noted that he “felt happiest when he rubbed his cheek against cats,” according to officers.
Demizu is unemployed, which is understandable given the impressive scope of his robberies. Surprisingly, he only keeps one cat in his home in Izumi City. 20 more were kept in a nearby warehouse. Around 100 neighborhood strays account for the rest of his wards, making him a feline Robin Hood, of sorts.
According to officers, Demizu was feeding the animals fresh fish and chicken as opposed to cheap canned food.
For reference, a 2012 Gallup poll found that Americans spend, on average, $151 dollars per week on groceries. Cats, on the other hand, have been known to survive quite well on dry cat food, dead rodents and the occasional artificial Christmas tree.
