Wendy’s employee gives literal meaning to the term ‘burger joint’

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 32-year-old Amy Seiber set off an unfortunate series of events for herself on November 1, which resulted in her getting arrested and losing her job.  On the evening of November 1, Seiber was at her job at Wendy’s in Atlanta, Georgia at a location on Tara Boulevard.  Seiber was admittedly smoking a marijuana cigarette while at work.

At 10:30 pm, a woman came to the drive-through of that Wendy’s location and ordered a Wendy’s single, a hamburger from the popular fast food chain.  At first, everything seemed fine, but when the woman came home and took her food out, she noticed a strange odor.  When she opened the burger, she discovered a partially smoked marijuana cigarette inside the sandwich.

The customer took the food and her receipt back to Wendy’s.  There, she reported the incident to the manager and she also phoned the police.  Seiber was arrested outside of her home shortly thereafter and she was also fired from her job.  When police spoke to Seiber, she admitted that she had been smoking pot on the job and must have inadvertently dropped a portion of it in the food.

Currently, Seiber is out on bond from the Clayton County Jail.  However, it is unclear what her punishment will be.  Seiber was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and awaits her trial and sentencing.  She may be able to plead out and receive a lower sentence, possibly even avoiding jail time depending on the deal.

It is also unclear what happened to the customer.  Some reports only have the customer returning the product to Wendy’s and notifying authorities.  However, the customer told TMZ that she had suffered from symptoms similar to those of food poisoning and had to be hospitalized, reports the Huffington Post.  She also stated that Wendy’s had offered to pay her medical bills and give her a $50 gift certificate to the restaurant chain.

Seiber is not the first employee of a fast food to cause a stir.  In June 2011, a man in upstate New York found a bloody bandage baked into the crust of his Pizza Hut pizza.  Earlier this year, a Subway employee placed his penis on sandwich bread from the store so he could put a picture of his “foot-long sausage sandwich” on Instagram.  In January 2012, a man nearly choked to death on fried chicken because of a metal coil in the food.  These incidents are infrequent, but not unheard of and who knows when the next scandal will come along?
