Atlanta shooting leaves 5 dead, 2 children injured

Police say the gunman killed an adult, three children, and injured two other children before turning the gun on himself.

A shooting near Atlanta has left five people dead and two children injured.

The gunman was among the dead after the shooting, which took place at the Douglasville subdivision 20 miles wet of Atlanta at around 3 p.m. on Saturday, according to a Fox News report.

A man allegedly came to the house and shot his ex-wife and several children, whose names have not been released because their family members had not yet been notified, according to the report.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. Glenn Daniel told Fox News that the shooter had killed himself, and two additional children were found injured at the scene and transported to a local hospital.

Neighbors witnessed the shooting and helped the victims until rescuers could arrive on the scene — some victims outside and others inside.

Investigators were on the scene on Saturday, taping off the crime scene in order to examine evidence after getting a warrant to do so.

A USA Today report indicated that of the five that were killed, two were adults and three were children. The two children who were taken to the hospital were in critical condition.

Local residents held a small vigil outside the home where the shooting had taken place.

Witnesses said the heard shots and heard a girl scream, and then heard four more shots. Investigators were still piecing together the relationships of all the people who were involved in the shooting.
