Alleged gunman captured after 3 shot at Pittsburgh-area mall

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the shooting, which they believe was a targeted attack on one individual who is currently in critical condition.

A teenager has been captured near Pittsburgh after allegedly shooting three people inside a shopping mall yesterday evening.

Police were on the lookout for a male who shot three people in what is being called a targeted attack at Monroeville Mall east of Pittsburgh, and then escaped at around 7:30 p.m., according to a local TV station report.

Authorities believe one of the men who was shot was specifically targeted by the gunman. All three — two men and a woman — were taken to Forbes Hospital after the shooting. They were shot in the lower level of a Macy’s store in the mall. The target of the shooting is reportedly in critical condition.

Allegheny County police reported that they have since arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy in connection with the shooting at the mall. Tarod Thornhill was arrested at around 3 a.m. this morning in Brackenridge.

Police say they were able to use social media and surveillance video to help make the arrests.

Police believe the other two shooting victims were simply bystanders.

The shooting caused chaos to breakout in the mall, with local news reports quoting eyewitnesses who said that everybody began to run after the shots rang out.

Former NFL quarterback Terrelle Pryor was also at the mall, and posted on Twitter that he didn’t see who was shooting, but saw two people drop to the ground, and then he heard 10 more shots go off before he ran.

The mall was also the site of a massive brawl that broke out in December.
