Tommy Chong on ‘Wolf of Wall Street’s’ Jordan Belfort: ‘We call ourselves cellies’

Chong was sentenced to nine months in jail in 2003 for selling bongs online.

Actor Tommy Chong recently told TMZ that he helped the author of the “Wolf of Wall Street,” which has now been turned into a major motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese, get his novel off the ground.

“We call ourselves cellies,” Chong told TMZ on Thursday when asked about sharing a cell with Jordan Belfort, who wrote the “Wolf of Wall Street.” “We had people smuggle in Turkey in for us for Thanksgiving. One of the wives put it in her big boots.”

“Just write from the heart and write about what you know,” Chong said he told Belfort during their time together, “and next thing you know he’s got a best seller, movie.”

When asked if he feels like he should get some of the royalties for encouraging Belfort, Chong said that “just seeing him do good” was enough. “My biggest thrill is watching him make money honestly,” the actor added.

According to TMZ, the actor, who’s famous for the “Cheech and Chong” movies, was sentenced to nine months in jail in 2003 for selling bongs online.
