Ellen DeGeneres hopes to achieve ‘world peace’ by hosting the 2014 Oscars

"We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars," the show's producers said in August.

Ellen DeGeneres is pumped to host the 2014 Academy Awards, The Associated Press reports. In fact, she’s so pumped that she has jokingly predicted that her 2014 hosting job will be so successful that it will result in world peace immediately after the show is over.

“It reached the world,” DeGeneres said about her hosting job in 2007 while making an appearance at the Toys for Tots charity event in LA, according to The AP. “And I’m trying to get world peace. So, that’s my goal. My hope is by hosting the Academy Awards, right afterward, we have world peace.”

Hosting the Oscars for the second time, DeGeneres will likely be better received by the audience and TV viewers than last year’s host, Seth McFarlane. Although the Oscars received higher ratings in 2013, McFarlane was criticized by some for “trafficking in offensive humor.” Unlike McFarlane, Ellen’s brand of humor is far from offensive.

“I know a lot of those people,” she said of the Oscar attendees. “They’re on my show a lot. I love the whole business. … I get to play with all those people in the audience and make people happy, and, hopefully, relax them.”

Regardless of whether she achieves world peace or not, Ellen has the blessing of the show’s producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

“We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars,” said Zadan and Meron in August.

“As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.”
