Deadly black widow spider found crawling in grapes: ‘I saw the legs moving frantically’

"I saw the legs moving frantically," the woman said.

It’s not every day that you come home from the supermarket with a bag of grapes and find a deadly black widow spider snacking on your food, but that’s exactly what happened to a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, woman named Yvonne Duckhorn.

Duckhorn told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel that she had purchased the grapes at Aldi’s Wauwatosa. Upon examining the grapes back home for mold, she saw something climbing around inside and immediately identified the deadly arachnid as the black widow spider based on its red hour-glass-shaped marking on the body.

“I saw the legs moving frantically,” Duckhorn the brave woman told the paper.

According to Food Safety News, supermarket chain Aldi has yanked its entire supply of grapes from Milwaukee, WI, stores in response to Duckhorn’s unfortunate discovery.

In a statement obtained by the Journal Sentinel, Aldi said that it was stepping up inspection procedures at all warehouses and stores. The company also said that any customer not 100 percent satisfied with a food product could return it for a refund. In this situation, finding a black widow spider in your grapes probably checks the “unsatisfied” box several times.
