Intel’s digital content library soars to more than 225,000 titles after Kno acquisition

The exact terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

TechCrunch reports that Intel has acquired digital education startup Kno in an effort to increase its digital education library.

“I’m excited to announce the newest resource in the Intel Education offering. Intel has acquired Kno, a leading education-software company whose guiding mission is to change the way students learn,” Intel’s John Galvin wrote in a blog post Friday.

“The acquisition of Kno boosts Intel’s global digital content library to more than 225,000 higher education and K-12 titles through existing partnerships with 75 educational publishers,” Galvin added. “Even more, the Kno platform provides administrators and teachers with the tools they need to easily assign, manage and monitor their digital learning content and assessments.”

According to various media reports, including one from CNET, the exact terms of the deal have not been disclosed. However, VentureBeat notes that Intel likely paid a pretty penny for the digital education startup, as Kno has raised a little more than $73 million in venture capital. The tech website adds that Kno was under pressure to produce revenues to keep its investors happy.

CNET notes that Kno introduced an educational tablet in 2010, but eventually settled on educational software as its primary focus. According to Kno’s website, the company partnered with more than 80 leading publishers to offer more than 200,000 interactive titles. Kno also created the Kno for Good program to provide $1 for every book purchased through the company towards a classroom in need.

“We’re looking forward to combining our expertise with Kno’s rich content so that together, we can help teachers create classroom environments and personalized learning experiences that lead to student success,” Galvin noted.
