“How’s ‘The Kardashian Phone’ coming along?” While it may sound kind of silly, that’s a question that may have actually been uttered by Apple employees when they were referring to the company’s gold iPhone 5s, according to a New York Times columnist.

“A source at Apple told me while they were making the gold iPhone it was referred to internally as ‘The Kardashian Phone,'” columnist Nick Bilton tweeted on Friday.

As if Kim Kardashian, the star of E!’ “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” needs any more attention right now, especially after tweeting a nearly-nude selfie.

According to TechCrunch, the nickname is for real.

Kim’s love for gold iPhones is no secret, which is likely why Apple Employees nicknamed the gold iPhone 5s “The Kardashian Phone.” In fact, Kim tweeted a picture of her gold anodized iPhone 5 last December.

Of course, now that gold is all the rage, BGR says that Kim is no longer using a gold iPhone, preferring to take selfies with a black one instead. BGR also notes that Apple’s decision to produce a gold iPhone 5s may have been influenced by the increase in popularity of gold iPhones after Kim showed off hers.

Now that everyone wants a gold iPhone 5s, they’re extremely hard to find. In fact, the gold iPhone 5s is available to ship within 2-3 weeks on Apple’s website (we confirmed this), while a blue iPhone 5c is available to ship within 24 hours.
