An employee was arrested for hiding the pipe in the fast food meal.
A family discovered a smoking pipe, stuffed with marijuana, inside a Burger King kids meal they had purchased for a 4-year-old boy in southern Michigan, the Daily Mail reports. A 23-year-old employee at the restaurant location has admitted to hiding the pipe in the box while he worked, but says he had no intention of giving it out to anyone.
The Detroit family was vacationing at the nearby Splash Universe water park when they stopped at the Dundee Burger King for a meal. Chief David Uhl told the DailyMail that the child’s grandfather went inside on Tuesday night to pick up some food for the family.
The chief went on to say the family immediately notified the police when they discovered the pipe. The grandfather also noticed a young male employee running away from the establishment and police discovered his cellphone during their investigation. Two friends called the phone while police were there, in an attempt to warn the employee of the police presence. Patrolman Shawn Kotsch tricked the two men, ages 18 and 20, into revealing that they were parked just across the street.
The Monroe Evening News reported that police discovered hashish and various drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle of the two men who were not employed at the restaurant’s location. All three men were immediately arrested on the scene, and formal drug possession charges are currently pending.
Chief Uhl said it was still unclear how the pipe made it’s way into kid’s meal packaging. “He hid it somewhere in the store. We’re not quite sure how it ended up in there,” he said. “Somehow, somebody picked it up and stuck it in there when they were packaging up the food. It is definitely strange.”
