The rumors date back several years to when Jackman starred in the Broadway musical "Boy from Oz" and locked lips with a male cast member as part of his performance.
Despite having been married to the same woman for 17 years, Hugh Jackman has found himself in the position of shrugging off rumors that he is gay once again.
Jackman, who is best known for his X-Men character Wolverine, spoke about the rumors during an interview with the Australia’s “60 Minutes.” Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, was present during the interview and Jackman and his wife both said that they are tired of having to defend their marriage against speculation that he is gay.
The rumors date back several years to when Jackman starred in the Broadway musical “Boy from Oz” and locked lips with a male cast member as part of his performance. When the play went to Australia, the kissing part was removed from subsequent performances, which created backlash with gay rights groups.
While Jackman finds the rumors annoying, he is less concerned about what people think about him and is more concerned about how it affects his wife, who first voiced her concern with the rumors back in February. “I do get frustrated for Deb, cause I see Deb go, ‘Ah, this is just crazy!'” Jackman commented. Jackman’s wife said that she finds the rumors “offensive.” While neither Jackman or Furness have voiced any problems with homosexuality, Furness said, “If he was gay, fine, he would say he’s gay. It’s annoying because it’s not true.”
Not only does the couple have to defend Jackman’s sexuality, Jackman’s “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner also spoke up on his marriage. “I have seen him with Deborra since the beginning of their trip to Hollywood, and I’ve been on five movie sets with him and have never seen him stray, have never seen him eye anyone,” she said. Donner also said that it’s obvious Jackman is deeply in love with his wife.
When Jackman isn’t busy defending his sexuality and filming new Wolverine flicks, he tries to spend as much time with his family as possible. Furness and Jackman have two children together, a boy and a girl. After having multiple miscarriages, the couple adopted the children who are ages 13 and 7. Considering that his son is a teenager, it’s understand how bothersome it would be to constantly have one’s marriage questioned by the media.
Fans of Jackman can see him return to the big screen in “The Wolverine,” which is set to release July 26. Jackman is also signed on for another X-Men movie, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which will release sometime in 2014.
