Kanye says he would rather his sex tape got leaked than have his photo taken by the paparazzi.
There are three things guaranteed in life–taxes, death and Kanye West bragging about himself when given the opportunity.
The rapper sat down for an interview with W magazine and talked a lot about himself and his attitude towards other people. He also spent some time discussing designing his home and his then upcoming album “Yeezus,” which was released June 18.
Even if someone wasn’t aware of West’s tendency to promote himself, that much is obvious from looking at the track list for “Yeezus.” One of the songs on that album is titled “I Am a God,” where he compares himself to Jesus. “I Am a God” is just one of the few highly controversial songs on that album, including “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves.” When the writer from “W” magazine asked him about “I Am a God,” West said, “I made that song because I am a god. I don’t think there’s much more explanation.”
West also said that he wrote the song “I Am a God” after getting mad during a fashion show in Paris, where he recorded his album. He was told that he could attend a particular show only if he promised not to attend any other fashion shows, something that didn’t sit too well with him. “Cause it’s like, Yo! Nobody can tell me where I can and can’t go. Man, I’m the No. 1 living and breathing rock star. I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix,” West said.
While the comment may come across as a bit narcissistic, West said he attempted to “scale it back.” Almost as soon as the words “scale it back” left his mouth, West seemed to think better of such a thing, saying his ego is “drug.” As off putting as that sounds, a architect friend of West’s who was along for the interview said that he thinks West’s attitude is part of what drives him as an artist.
West’s harsh words aren’t just for people in the music industry or for critics. Speaking from his apartment in Paris, West let loose on Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, who congratulated West on a successful album launch.
“Great job, belt loops, for keeping my pants up!” West said mockingly.
Jenner and West reportedly made up before leaving Paris, with Jenner giving West a hug and expressing her love for the father of her grandchild.
The reviews and West’s comments come as the rapper and beau Kim Kardashian announced the birth of their first child, North West. The child is reportedly a girl and Kim is said to be recovering from the birth. The couple have already suggested they will travel as a family during West’s upcoming world tour. West also reportedly proposed to Kardashian on the same night as the birth of their child.
Even though West may not always come off in the most positive light, his new album has received great reviews thus far. Jon Dolan of Rolling Stone called the album the work of a “mad genius.”
