Justin Bieber’s first Instagram video sparks speculation of drug use

Instagram video allows users to post 15-second video clips.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber’s first Instagram video has sparked speculation of drug use, as the 19-year-old singer can be seen giggling uncontrollably. “So, crazy news guys!” a shirtless Bieber told his fans through fits of giggles. “There is video on Instagram.” The singer’s strange behavior has sparked media speculation that he may have smoked marijuana before filming the video.

Bieber’s off-the-wall video comes just days after the social networking site Facebook added video to Instagram, a move that the Silicon Valley company hopes will place it in direct competition with Twitter’s Vine feature.  Instagram video allows users to post 15-second video clips. Instagram differs from Vine in that users can edit clips and add frames and filters to their videos. Facebook paid $1 billion for Instagram just over one year ago.

Bieber wasn’t the only celebrity testing out Facebook’s addition of video to Instagram. Miami Heat star and two-time NBA champion Lebron James also posted a video to Instagram. Madonna also gave fans an eyeful in her first video post. The aging singer can be seen booting popping in her bathroom. Expect hundreds, if not thousands, of these videos to roll in over the next few days as celebrities explore a new way to connect with their fans.

While Bieber may have been having a little too much fun with Instagram video, the singer certainly hasn’t had the easiest of weeks. The singer was under investigation for a possible hit and run accident involving a paparazzo, but TMZ reported that police cleared the “Boyfriend” singer of any charges after reviewing video tape of the incident.

The incident reportedly took place as Justin was exiting the Laugh Factory on Sunset Boulevard shortly before midnight in his white Ferrari. As he attempted to leave, a paparazzo was pinned between the sports car and a park car. The LAPD reviewed video tape of the incident and determined that Bieber was not at fault. According to TMZ, however, the LAPD said that the paparazzo, who was not seriously hurt, probably shouldn’t have been standing in the roadway.

In other Bieber news, TMZ reported Friday that the Canadian pop star had grounded a private jet in Miami for eight hours as he searched for his pet monkey. Sources told TMZ that Bieber’s plane was ready to take off at 11 am ET, but the singer delayed departure because he wanted to pick up his monkey from West Palm beach. The plane reportedly took off around 5 pm.

The Bieber’s erratic behavior has concerned many, including Kid Rock, but fellow Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen defended him recently, calling the “Boyfriend” singer a victim of the “brutal” media. “He’s doing the best he can,” she added.

What do you think? Did Bieber smoke some weed before posting his first Instagram video? Can we expect more Instagram videos like this to be posted by celebrities in the coming weeks and months?
