Lil Wayne tramples the American flag.
Rapper Lil Wayne has upset the masses with his latest stunt of walking and dancing all over an American flag.
The New Orleans rapper was filming a video for his latest hit “God Bless Amerika” when the flag was dropped to the ground. Instead of picking up the flag or moving around it, Lil Wayne walked all over it. Someone videoed the incident and leaked footage of the 30-year-old disrespecting the flag on YouTube. While some of his more patriotic fans might want to give him the benefit of the doubt, from the video the act looked intentional.
Something else to take into consideration when deciding whether Lil Wayne intentionally disrespected the flag or was oblivious to what was going on is the lyrics to the “God Bless Amerika” song. The lines are considered very controversial and include: “My country ’tis of thee / Sweet land of kill ’em all and let ’em die / God bless Amerika / This so godless Amerika…/ the stars on the flag are never shining.”
“God Bless Amerika” is featured on Lil Wayne’s latest album, “I Am Not a Human Being II,” which was released earlier this year. While some believe that Lil Wayne should be arrested for disrespecting the flag, he is protected by the freedom of speech allowed in the First Amendment and will not face any legal issues.
Ironically enough, Lil Wayne’s flag stomping came only a couple of weeks after he paid his respects to American soldiers on Twitter. “Today I remember and pay homage to the negro soldiers that served and fought in World War II,” the rapper tweeted.
News of the flag stomping has been all over Twitter, with most users completely outraged. Some wish that the Supreme Court would finally make desecrating the flag illegal and others talk about how the rapper is a blight on society. One user had the following to say about the incident: “Lil Wayne shows us exactly how Lil’ he is by dancing on the flag of his fallen countrymen. Bet he hates having all that money, too.” While the majority are upset, there are a few who defend his actions and say that it’s not “a big deal.”
Lil Wayne has stayed in the news lately for his music. Last month Pepsi dropped Lil Wayne as a spokesperson because of controversial lyrics in the song “Karate Chop.” One line from the song compared a sexual encounter to the brutal and fatal beating of Civil Rights icon Emmett Till. Pepsi said they dropped him because he “does not reflect the values of our brand.”
