Mumford & Sons bassist heads to hospital for blood clot.
English rock folk band Mumford & Sons has announced that it was canceling three of its performances this week due to their bassist Ted Dwane being hospitalized to remove a blood clot on his brain.
Reuters reports that group, known for such hits as “I Will Wait” and “The Cave,” revealed the news on its official website on Tuesday morning. In the statement they explained that their 28-year-old bandmate hadn’t been feeling well for days and was taken to the hospital on Monday, where scans showed that he had “a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation.” As a result, the Grammy-winning band has postponed its Tuesday concert in Dallas, Wednesday concert in the Woodlands and Thursday concert in New Orleans. These concerts will be rescheduled, with all tickets to be honored at the new dates.
Despite this week’s cancellation, the group has no plans to cancel or postpone any future performances on its Summer Stampede North America tour. “Ted is receiving excellent care, and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery,” band members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett and Country Wilson said in the statement.
Their next show is scheduled for Saturday, June 15 at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee. According to Mumford & Sons website, future US tour stops include Bonner Springs, Kansas and Telluride, Colorado. They will then perform in the UK, starting on Sunday, June 30 with the area’s biggest musical festival Glastonbury.
Dwane’s bandmates concluded their statement on the website saying, “We’re all wishing Ted a speedy recovery.”
But they’re not the only ones sending their regards. Many fans wrote get-well messages to the bass player in the comments section under the group’s statement on the website.
One fan wrote, “I wish Ted a fast recovery. My thoughts & prayers are with Ted, his family and the rest of the band. I enjoyed the San Bernardino concert, and I know all of your fans are praying for you. Your guardian angel is working overtime in your time of need, keep the faith in God now, more than ever.”
Another fan told Dwane to keep his spirits up saying, “Always remember to stay positive, and stay strong. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and I cant wait to hear the news of your recovery! Love ya bunches Ted! Get better soon!”
Actress Carey Mulligan has also been lending her support through comforting her husband and Mumford & Son’s lead singer Marcus Mumford. E! Online reports The Great Gatsby star was spotted rubbing Mumford’s back on Tuesday as they waited to hear an update on Dwane’s status.
