Kanye drops some new beats.
After recently wrapping up production on his new album “Yeezus,” Kanye West debuted some new songs from the album Sunday night at New York’s Governors Ball festival. “Yeezus” will be West’s sixth studio album and is slated for a June 18 release date as long as he doesn’t make anymore changes, something that is rumored to be happening.
One new song West sang during the concert was called On Site and another song was called I Am God. As usual, there was a lot of controversy surrounding West and his songs. The song “I Am God” struck some people the wrong way, but that much is obvious from the title of the song alone. Some of the lyrics in that particular song included a profanity-laced conversation West has with Jesus. Another song that didn’t go over well at the concert was called “Black Skinheads” that featured backup dancers wearing black KKK-style hoods. It’s almost certain that his choices didn’t take his fans by surprise, but they were an odd choice for such an event.
“Yeezus” will feature 21 tracks, something that should please fans that have been waiting for a new West album the past three years. During the concert, West went on a fifteen minute rant (no surprise there) about the new album. West talked about how he hadn’t really done anything to promote the new album, including releasing singles on the radio. He also said, “We just make some real music…Honestly at this point, when I listen to radio, that ain’t where I want to be no more.”
During the rant, West made it crystal clear that he doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of him or his new album, which some are already calling overly “racial” and “sociopolitical.” Part of that rant was likely directed at former “Full House” star Candace Cameron Bure who spoke out against the album because West was “comparing himself to Jesus.”
In other West news, the dad-to-be celebrated his 36th birthday the night before the Governors Ball without girlfriend Kim Kardashian. The couple is expecting a girl near the end of June or possibly early July. The absence of Kardashian led to some speculation that trouble was brewing, but Kardashian is too far along in her pregnancy to fly from Los Angeles to New York. Kardashian did post a message to her Instagram account–“Happy Birthday to my best friend, the ♥ of my life, my soul!!!! I love you beyond words!”
West is expected to go on tour in Europe to promote his new album later this year and Kardashian has said that she and the baby will join him.
