Do you like or dislike the Affordable Care Act?
The latest polling numbers on President Barack Obama’s healthcare law, known as the Affordable Care Act and also called Obamacare, reveal that the law’s unpopularity has reached an all-time high among Americans. In an effort to boost Obamacare’s popularity, President Obama traveled to California to speak about the benefits of the law and a major change that will take place in October.
President Obama told his audience that his healthcare law is “working the way it’s supposed to,” despite an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Thursday that shows 49 percent of Americans believe the law is a bad idea. That’s the highest percentage documented on this question since the poll started recording it in 2009. Only 37 percent believe that Obamacare is a good idea.
Effective on October 1, 2013, individuals and small business will be able to purchase health care plans in the healthcare marketplace. At the beginning of the year, new features of Obamacare were implemented to better preventive health coverage and to expand the authority to bundle payments.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll also reveals other disturbing numbers for the Obama administration. Business Insider notes that 38 percent of poll participants said that the law would make the country “worse off,” while only 19 percent believe it will make the country “better off.”
According to White Officials cited by The Associated Press, President Obama used his trip to California to explain how the Golden State is handling the Affordable Care Act. He also used the opportunity to promote health care exchanges as a way of providing millions of people with affordable health insurance.
