Bieber is headed to space.
Justin Bieber may soon be traveling faster than his Ferrari when he goes into space aboard Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the 19-year-old singer and his manager Scooter Braun have signed up for seats on the suborbital flight, which will take passengers 62 miles above Earth and allow them to experience weightlessness and observe the curvature of the planet later this year. The duo paid $250,000 each to reserve a spot on Virgin founder Richard Branson’s private spacecraft.
Branson announced the news on Twitter Wednesday, tweeting, “Great to hear @justinbieber & @scooterbraun are latest @virgingalactic future astronauts. Congrats, see you up there!”
Bieber retweeted Branson and later responded with a suggestion of what to do in space saying, “@richardbranson @scooterbraun @virgingalactic let’s shoot a music video in SPACE!! #nextLEVEL.”
Braun also retweeted Branson and wrote, “im going to space momma!!”
The New York Daily News reports that this isn’t the first time Bieber has expressed interest in space travel. Back in February, he told his Twitter followers that he wanted to do a concert in space, in which NASA replied that they can help him do that.
Bieber and his manager are part of more than 530 people who have already claimed a seat on the flight, including Ashton Kutcher, Tom Hanks, Stephen Hawkings, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Katy Perry and Leonardo DiCaprio. Last month, a Russian man won the opportunity to accompany The Great Gatsby star on the space journey by bidding $1.5 million at a charity auction, according to The Huffington Post. Additionally, a second pair of seats were auctioned off for $2.3 million with part of the auction‘s proceeds to benefiting the AmFAR Cinema Against AIDS charity.
Besides the excitement of traveling to space, Bieber has a lot more to be joyful about. According to Digital Spy, the Canadian pop star has became the first person to hit 40 million followers on Twitter. He reached the milestone on June 4. Right behind him are Lady Gaga with a little more than 37.9 million followers, Katy Perry with 37.4 million, President Barack Obama with 32.2 million, Rihanna with 29.8 million and Taylor Swift with 28.6 million.
On Tuesday, Bieber expressed his appreciation, tweeting, “#40MillionBeliebers – thank u. i love u. #grateful” and posted a screenshot of when he had a mere 40 followers after joining the social networking site back in 2009.
Things seem to be looking up for Bieber, as opposed to last month when he was reportedly caught speeding in his Ferrari within his gated community.
