Brain damage?

Khyati Shah, the fan who was the victim of singer Miguel’s leg drop during his performance at the Billboard Music Awards last month, may have suffered a head injury despite appearing seemingly fine after the incident.

MTV reports that Shah was accidentally kicked in the head during the May 19 show when the 27-year-old R&B recording artist decided to jump across the stage in the midst of his performance of the song “Adorn” from his Kaleidoscope Dream album.

According to TMZ, Shah may have possible brain damage as a result of the event with her lawyer Vip Bhola saying, “Some of the difficulties she’s experiencing are cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury.”

Moreover, Bhola said that his client didn’t receive proper medical attention after the performance, calling the action to give her an ice pack for her arm, and not her head, “a pathetic gesture” and claiming that she should have immediately been taken to the hospital. He also said that Shah is waiting to get back results from a neurologist to determine whether or not she will file a lawsuit.

After his performance, Miguel addressed the incident tweeting, “Got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay.” Billboard conducted an interview with the two of them backstage, while Shah held an ice pack to her elbow.

“Well, I think it’s kind of clear what happened,” he told Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde. “But I’m very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met. Unfortunately we did not meet under the best circumstances, but I think we’re okay.

His fan confirmed that she was okay, saying “I Adorn him.”

Miguel also alluded directly to the jump saying, “The crazy thing is, when you’re performing and you’re just kind of into it, you never know where it’s gonna go and where you’re gonna go with it, and how that might turn out. So this is one of the less favorable moments.”

But was it really a case of a spur of the moment decision? According to TMZ, the jump was part of Miguel’s original performance plan. Sources involved in the production told the website that when he asked producers before the show if he could go forward with the jump they advised him not to because it was “too dangerous.” If Miguel had only adhered to their concerns, there wouldn’t have been a problem.
