Vine moves to Android.
Add another possible hit to the Google Play market, now that Twitter’s Vine is finally available for Android devices. Four months ago, it was an iOS exclusive, but it now seems it will move to the most popular platform for mobile.
Call it six seconds of fame. The Twitter-owned app allows the user to be a filmmaker – for six seconds, that is. In an interview with All things D, product head of Twitter, Michael Sippey said the development team took advantage of the fundamental unit of filmmaking…and integrated that into the product. The result: Users can tell sophisticated stories, even though there’s a six-second restriction.
Whether or not any aspiring filmmakers will use this app as a launchpad to build feature film status, remains to be seen. However, Vine does have the potential to reach not just family and friends, but a wider audience.
The idea is for users to capture moments in motion. According to Vine’s website, Vine is a fun way for friends and families to share short videos. It includes free unlimited uploads, which allows users to instantly post videos on Vine, then share to Twitter and Facebook. The app also allows users to find, follow, and interact with people close to users, explore trending posts, featured hashtags and editor’s picks, and more.
Vine is a Twitter-owned app, that has been causing a buzz across the Internet because of it takes such a fresh approach to something we’ve all done: snap photos on our phones and tablets. Moreover, if users ever wanted to get artsy, creative, silly, minimalist, the Vine app might provide the perfect outlet for those tendencies.
According to the Los Angeles Times, since its launch, Vine has gained more than 13 million users, and has been fondly called, the Instagram of video. Key features include social networking with looping six-second videos.
The Guardian Express reported that reaction to the app have been mixed, at best, even with 13 million users. It’s even been described as “corny.” And, to its credit, Vine has cracked the top five spot on the iOS charts, since April. Twitter users should find Vine extremely user friendly, as it works in tandem with those accounts.
Software engineer at Twitter Sara Haider, hinted at new features that will be available for both Android and iOS users. Although it’s not an exact replica of the iPhone version, Android users can zoom in.
Six seconds might be plenty, if you’re feeling up to the challenge.
