Is this album the real deal?
Kanye West knows how to start a conversation. Whether he’s dropping his infamous “George Bush hates black people” line during the Katrina telethon or stealing the moment from country star Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye certainly knows how to get people to start talking about him. This time he’s figured out a way to get people to start talking about the release of his upcoming sixth solo album “Yeezus.”
How exactly has he managed to do this? One look at the album cover for Kanye’s new album says it all. In fact, Kanye’s album cover is nothing more than a clear CD case with a red piece of tape attached to it with the album title scrawled in black ink. By keeping it simple, Kanye makes the point that being innovative doesn’t always mean something has to be complex.
While the album cover is so minimalistic that some might think it isn’t the real deal, DJ Semtex confirmed the authenticity of the album cover in a blog post Friday.
Not only is Kanye’s album cover simplistic, but it’s also interactive. “Please add graffiti,” reads the text above an image of the the rapper’s album cover. Given the creativity of Kanye’s music, the artwork that will be inspired by his lyrics will certainly build anticipation for the release date of June 18 among aspiring artists.
Much of “Yeezus” is still under wraps, but the talented rapper debuted “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” on SNL.
