Angelina Jolie topless portrait to be sold for charity; actress’ aunt has ‘hours’ to live

What do you think of Angelina Jolie's decision to have a double mastectomy?

Shortly after Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie said that she chose to have a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer, artist Johan Andersson revealed a topless painting of Jolie post-mastectomy, according to the New York Daily News. Andersson has become a well-known art figure for his portraits of Amy Winehouse and Muammar Gaddaffi.

Andersson’s painting is expected to sell for approximately $22,000 after going on display at Art Below, a Los Angeles art gallery, reports the Daily Mail. The money from the sale of the Jolie portrait will help Falling Whistles, a charity that works for peace in the Congo. According to Art Below, Jolie herself is extremely passionate about Falling Whistles.

In a statement to Art Below, Andersson said that his own mother had extremely aggressive breast cancer when he was younger. He said that the news about Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy convinced him to paint this portrait. Andersson said there is an “underlying awkwardness in hear demeanor in juxtaposition to the natural beauty of her face.”

Jolie, whose mother Marcheline Bertrand died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56, elected to have the life changing surgery in February after learning that she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation that physicians said gave the mother of six children an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer.

Jolie isn’t the only one in her family dealing with the threat of cancer. The Daily Mail reports that Jolie’s aunt Debbie Martin has just “hours” to live. Martin has had her life support machine turned off after losing her struggle with breast cancer. The Daily Mail adds that Martin was reportedly “very supportive” of Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy.

What do you think of Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy? Would you consider having a double mastectomy if you had the BRCA1 gene mutation? Sound off in the comments section.
