Pinterest, which pulled in a Nielsen reported record year over year increase of 1,698 percent last year, has been a busy company of late, adding new features for its IOS and Android apps.
Pinterest just got more pinteresting.
With just the push of a button, users can now share something of interest, like the latest fantasy sports trend, music review or hot tech news.
The social pinboard service just released an update that allows users to pin others via the web or phone. The sender can also tack on a personal message such as “u gotta see this” or “this is a must try.”
“Your friend will see the pin in their notifications or in their email,” software engineer Sunny Rochiramani wrote in a blog post as reported by CNET. “If they repin, like or comment on the pin, we’ll let you know through notifications, too.”
The new send button to pin someone will be located directly next to the “pin it” and “like” buttons right under a pinned photo. Fellow Pinterest users, email contacts and facebook contacts can be sent pins.
The folks at Pinterest stress it may take a few weeks for the new feature to fully take hold, so they are preaching patience. They are confident, however, that the wait will be well worth it as Pinterest pins down, in a good way, more everyday users.
Pinterest, which pulled in a Nielsen reported record year over year increase of 1,698 percent last year, has been a busy company of late, adding new features for its IOS and Android apps, including push notifications, search suggestions, group boards and friend mentions. Mobile users also can receive push notifications regarding other users’ likes or repins of their posts.
The search function has also been updated, allowing for suggestions to appear as one types into the search bar. Just two months ago, Pinterest made significant changes to its website and acquired the recipe site Punchfork.
The growing influence of Pinterest has apparently helped bring a boon to the wedding industry as the Christian Science Monitor reported that 80 percent of its 48.7 million users are women, mostly in the 25-34 age range.
“It’s now our biggest traffic driver, and it’s now [referred] more traffic than Facebook has” in five years, Meg Keene, founder and editor of the popular blog “A Practical Wedding” and author of a book of the same name told the publication. “The wedding industry has always been focused on details, because that’s what you can sell…. With Pinterest, it’s been ramped up.”
She has become a big fan of Pinterest for its efficiency.
“It’s a great way to communicate,” Laveau told the CSM. “It keeps me very in line with what brides want. ‘Purple’ can mean 50 different things, or she could say ‘peonies’ when she means ‘roses.'”
