Cuomo warns Kardashian.
While Khloe Kardashian is probably one of the less popular Kardashian sisters right now since all attention is on Kim and her pregnancy with Kanye West, when Khloe does make headlines, it’s not often for good reasons.
The youngest Kardashian sister may face legal troubles stemming from a potential copyright issue with a shirt she was wearing that is part of her Rich Soil clothing line. The shirt features the Statue of Liberty and the words “Rich Soil New York,” which looks very similar to a New York state logo used by the Department of Agriculture. The only noticeable differences in the Rich Soil design and the state logo is that the state logo says “Pride Of” instead of “Rich Soil,” and the barn in the state logo is replaced with an instrument in the Rich Soil design.
Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office sent Kardashian a letter on Friday telling her that the logo on the shirt may be a copyright violation. “The State of New York has invested substantial time, effort and resources creating the respect and goodwill associated with the trademark,” Susan Rosenthal, a lawyer for the Department of Agriculture, said in the letter.
If Kardashian doesn’t respond to the cease and desist letter, she will be sued for the money made off the sales of any apparel that contain the logo. So far, neither Kardashian or her husband and business partner/NBA player Lamar Odom have commented, but the shirt with the offending logo isn’t currently listed on the Rich Soil website.
Even though it appears Kardashian may have been benefiting financially from ripping off New York’s logo, Governor Cuomo seems to be taking the matter in stride. “I wish I could [comment] in some ways because it would at least be a little more interesting than what I normally do,” Cuomo said during a press conference with a smile on his face. After all, it isn’t every day that a state governor has to go up against someone as popular and as loaded as a member of the Kardashian family.
This isn’t the first legal issue Khloe Kardashian has been involved in, either. In the past, she has been arrested for DUI and has also been named in two lawsuits. She was once sued by a woman claiming Kardashian assaulted her at a night club. Kardashian and her sisters Kim and Kourtney are also in the midst of a lawsuit involving QuickTrim, a diet pill company they endorsed. If the plaintiffs win, the sisters will be on the hook for $5 million.
