Star Trek is back.
The stars of “Star Trek Into Darkness” hit the silver carpet at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday for the film’s premiere.
All of the film’s major stars, including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto, were present at the premiere. Leonard Nimoy, who starred as Mr. Spock in the old movies and TV series, was also at the premiere. Even though Nimoy isn’t credited for being in the new film, he does reprise his role once again.
Other stars that showed up for the premiere include Kate Beckinsale, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. Some of the actors looked like they were ready to walk down the red carpet at the Oscars while others dressed a little more casual. While all of the stars looked great, Saldana in particular dazzled in a nude silk dress. Jennifer Morrison, who played Kirk’s mom in the 2009 film, was decked out in a blue jumpsuit.
Saldana had a lot of positive things to say about making the film, including heaps of praise for the people she worked with. “My favorite part about this film was getting to work again with the people that I love and respect and I remained friends with since the first time we all met,” Saldana said.
Director J.J. Abrams also showed up at the Dolby Theater for the premiere. If any of the fans present were upset over his switch to the dark side by agreeing to direct “Star Wars Episode VII,” it wasn’t evident as Abrams received quite the reception from the Trekkies.
The twelfth installment of “Star Trek” is about the crew of the Enterprise searching for a man capable of mass destruction. After the crew goes back home, they find most of their fleet has been destroyed and that their home is a war zone. Captain Kirk (Pine) leads the hunt for the villain and must do everything possible to protect his crew.
“Star Trek Into Darkness” is already showing in the United Kingdom and opened over the past weekend. It was so successful that it knocked “Iron Man 3” off the top of the box office charts. “Iron Man 3” took in $174 million in its first weekend in the United States, which will be a tough number for “Star Trek Into Darkness” to top.
“Star Trek Into Darkness” opens on Thursday at 12:01 AM and is the first “Star Trek” film available in 3D. Some theaters are holding marathons showing all 11 films to get the fans ready for the premiere.
