PBS: Diddy will not appear in next season’s ‘Downton Abbey’

PBS: Diddy will not appear in next season’s ‘Downton Abbey’

Diddy will not appear on Downton Abbey.

On Wednesday, Diddy tweeted the following: “MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that I’m a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!” That was followed by this tweet: “”I have  to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows- and that’s why Im so excited today.”

However, the news that Diddy broke on Twitter is greatly exaggerated. According to PBS, there is absolutely no truth to the report that Diddy will make any appearance on the hit TV show. So he won’t have to work on polishing his Cockney accent any time soon.

It’s not just PBS that’s denying the claim. When asked if there was any truth to the tweet, a press representative for Masterpiece said “None at all. Thanks for checking.” That certainly has the element of finality.

Apparently, Diddy’s publicist has since informed him of the bad news. The infamous tweet announcing that he will be joining the cast of the show has since been removed.

So why did the tweet appear in the first place? That’s not clear at this point. It may have been a hacker or it might have been bad information. Diddy’s Twitter page actually displays a photo of the Downton Abbey estate and the logo of the show. So he’s clearly a fan.

However, the show will feature its first recurring black character during the upcoming season, which begins on January 5th. That character will be a jazz singer played by Gary Carr, not Diddy.

Downton Abbey is an Emmy-winning TV show about the lives of aristocratic Britons around the turn of the 20th century. It’s broadcast on Britain’s ITV and on PBS in the United States, where it’s a huge hit for the largely ignored public broadcasting network. The show attracted 7.9 million viewers during its third season.

Diddy, 43, is a hip hop artist who won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. His first album, No Way Out, debuted in 1997 and has been certified seven times platinum. That album was followed by numerous other releases,  including Forever, The Saga Continues…, and Press Play. Diddy also founded Bad Boy Records, which is the label that signed influential rapper The Notorious B.I.G. Forbes magazine estimated Diddy’s net worth at $500 million, making him the richest artist in hip hop.
