Arrested Development hits New York City.
Fans of Arrested Development went bananas on the streets of Manhattan on Monday for those delectable, potassium-rich frozen treats regularly featured on short-lived comedy series.
Fox News reports that a flock of New Yorkers lined up near Radio City Music Hall in front of Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana Stand, a pop-up version of the television show’s family business, to indulge in a free chocolate dipped frozen banana. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. an estimated 2,000 banana treats were given away, as told by a rep for the show.
It was all part of a promotional event to celebrate the return of the Emmy-winning sitcom.
Netflix will release 15 new episodes of the show on May 26, according to the Los Angeles Times. Arrested Development, which ran from 2003 to 2006 on FOX, was originally canceled due to low ratings despite high critical acclaim. Revolving around the adventures of an unconventional family, the series featured a cast of well-known actors including Jeffrey Tambor, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Portia de Rossi. Time magazine reports that the entire main cast is expected to return for the fourth season.
The banana-shaped hut is making its way around the world, with its start in London last week and currently appearing in locations around New York City until Thursday. Afterwards, it will journey on to Los Angeles. Those interested in seeing where they can get their hands on a banana treat next can follow the show’s Twitter page.
The rep for Arrested Development expressed her surprise at the reception of this promotional tour, saying it was an unprecedented marketing move.
