Another season of Arrested Development is just around the corner.
Not many diehard fans of TV shows get to see their favorite show revived, but fans of the cult hit Arrested Development will get such a treat when the fourth season of the show is released on Netflix on May 26.
Adding to the growing anticipation of the release, fans of the show got their first glance at what the new season will hold today when Netflix released a 90-second trailer. Fans will be happy to see that the entire Bluth family is back and may be disturbed to see that the sexual tension between cousins George Michael (Michael Cera) and Maeby (Alia Shawkat) still exists seven years later.
The trailer opens with Michael (Jason Bateman) leaving an airport and promptly burning his hand on the handle of a cab and then flashes to Michael visiting George Michael in his college dorm only to find Maeby in there with him. The trailer briefly touches on each of the dysfunctional Bluth family members. One of the funnier scenes in the trailer that you’ll miss if you blink is when Gob (Will Arnett) tries to open a Mike’s Hard Lemonade on the countertop, but instead knocks off a chunk of granite. Other than everyone aging a few years, it doesn’t look like much has changed with the Bluth family at all.
Arrested Development aired on Fox from 2003 to 2006 as a weekly show. Instead of releasing a single episode each week, Netflix is going to make the entire fourth season, which consists of 15 episodes, available to stream all at once. Since the season will be released on Memorial Day weekend, fans can have an Arrested Development marathon.
The fourth season of the show is supposed to be its final, but that won’t stop fans from hoping that creator Mitchell Hurwitz will have another change of heart about how far he can take the show. After season three, Hurwitz originally said that he had “had taken it as far as I felt I could as a series.” After years of speculation about another season on a cable network or a movie adaptation, Hurwitz announced plans for the fourth season in 2011.
To gear everyone up for the show, the official Arrested Development Twitter page is tweeting daily about events relating to the show, behind-the-scenes pictures, as well as encouraging fans to share their favorite quotes from the popular Uncle Toby (David Cross). In New York City, fans of Arrested Development were in for a treat on Monday afternoon when Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana hut was set up to promote the show. Two thousand chocolate dipped bananas were given out to fans.
