Have you downloaded Facebook Home?
Facebook Home has reached a milestone: one million downloads. Facebook Home is a software suite for Android users that lets you replaces your standard home screen with a stream of friends’ posts and photos. For the time being, however, less than half of a percent of Facebook’s one billion users have downloaded the app.
According to CNET, the social network released a new version of Facebook Home Thursday. Facebook VP of Engineering Cory Ondrejka noted that Thursday’s update included bug fixes.
In the meantime, Mashable reports that the Facebook Home-sporting HTC First price has been dropped from $99.99 with a two-year contract to $0.99 with a two-year contract. Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff writes that this development “does not bode well for this first HTC/Facebook collaboration and future Facebook Phones.”
Despite the fact that between one million and five million people have downloaded Facebook Home, TechCrunch points out that the app is quickly losing popularity.
According to data provided by App Annie, Facebook Home was #72 overall in the U.S. after becoming publicly available on April 16. A week later, Facebook Home was in the top 100 overall in eight countries and the top 500 in 38 countries. By the end of the month, however, the app started to lose steam.
It ranked in the top 500 in just 29 countries and was no longer in the top 100 in any market. TechCrunch reports that Facebook Home has yet to return to top 100 in any country. This TechCrunch article also contains charts from Distimo’s look at the top 500 apps on Google Play, which reveals the same trends seen in App Annie’s data.
