Spears discusses the future.
For a significant portion of the last decade, it seemed like Britney Spears was bound to follow down the road of countless other grown-up child stars toward cautionary tale status. Once a chart-topping, pop-music queen, Spears stumbled upon hard times in the mid-2000s, her career marred by a disastrous marriage, a spat of drug use, and a widely-publicized public meltdown. But in recent years, Spears has staged quite the comeback, battling her way back to pop radio prominence with 2011’s Femme Fatale, and regaining her place in the spotlight with a judging post on Simon Cowell’s television talent show, The X-Factor.
But if the past few years were about Spears repairing her public image, a sexy bikini-clad photograph on the cover of the latest issue of Shape Magazine suggests that she’s determined to get her body back into top form as well. According to Spears, the changes aren’t for purely aesthetic reasons either. The performer is planning a big Las Vegas residency for later this year, and she wants to be able to give her all onstage.
“I’m doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week in addition to a lot of cardio — hour-long sessions three times a week with my trainer, Tony Martinez,” Spears said in the Shape Magazine article. “The [Vegas] performances won’t be simple — they’ll be a massive party from start to finish. And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.”
Though neither Spears nor her publicists have yet made an official announcement about the Vegas residency–regarding dates, location, or other ticket information–rumor has it that Spears will be setting up shop at Planet Hollywood this coming November. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Spears’ eighth full-length studio album, which the singer is supposedly working on as we speak.
The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am announced last week that he will be taking on executive producing duties for the new disc.
If Spears’ fanbase has anything to be upset about, it’s likely the news that the superstar will not be returning to The X-Factor this coming fall. But considering the rumored scope of the Vegas project and the pressures of recording a major label album, Spears’ decision to opt out of another season is hardly surprising.
