Did Kim know Kris would skip?
On Friday, several reports claimed that Kris Humphries had skipped a mandatory hearing in his ongoing divorce case against Kim Kardashian and the judge was irate. But is that really what happened?
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Humphries’ hometown newspaper, both Kardashian and the judge were aware that the Brooklyn Nets player would not appear in court.
“Kardashian received a courtesy call Thursday that her estranged 72-day husband … would not attend what various media claim was a mandatory settlement hearing in their divorce case,” the Star Tribune reported Monday. “The judge was also reportedly informed of Humphries’ plans not to be there.”
Instead of appearing Friday in court in Los Angeles, Humphries, 28, traveled with his team to Indianapolis for a game against the Indiana Pacers, which the Nets won 117-109. According to the Star Tribune, “Humphries has been told to make the next settlement conference, which is after the NBA regular season has ended.”
Given that Kardashian was allegedly aware of Humphries’ plans to skip the hearing, the Star Tribune concluded that her “tight-faced exit” from the courthouse Friday “was a better acting performance than she gave in Tyler Perry’s ‘Temptation.'”
But the Star Tribune didn’t stop there. The newspaper questioned why the media made “a bigger deal” out of Humphries’ no-show than the fact that Kardashian, 32, has reportedly been excused “from attending the first day of trial because she has a fashion commitment”; it also disputed reports that the judge had yelled at Humphries’ legal team over the absence, noting that “a yelling judge is juicy stuff but would show bias on the part of His Honor,” and pointed out that the Associated Press report about the hearing “included nothing about bench screaming.”
The Star Tribune concluded its debunking of Friday’s reports by speculating that given Kardashian’s pregnancy, “her stubborn refusal to put this 2011 marriage behind her tells [the newspaper] one thing: that there is some benefit for Humphries in getting an annulment that he wouldn’t enjoy should there be a divorce.” Humphries has stated repeatedly that he wants an annulment so that their prenup, which included a nondisclosure agreement, would be null and void and he would therefore be able to give interviews to the media about his marriage and the Kardashian family. So that isn’t anything new.
