This week Will Smith extended his fatherly love to one of his son Jaden’s best friends–Justin Bieber.

Bieber has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons lately and is catching a lot of flak from the media, something Smith feels is unfair.  Just last month, Bieber fainted at one concert and canceled another, and then he received a fine of more than $60,000 for taking a monkey to Germany.  His latest problem, which could net him another fine up to $2,000, is tattooing someone without a license.

The tattooing incident isn’t a recent thing, as it happened last summer.  After getting some new ink from NYC tattoo artist Bang Bang, Bieber tattooed the word “Swaggy” and a mouse on the artist’s leg, something the New York City Health Department is now addressing.  Even though the illegal tat isn’t something Bieber did recently, it only adds to his laundry list of issues.

Teenagers do stupid things, but most of them are fortunate enough that their lives aren’t being viewed under a microscope like the 19-year-old Bieber.  Smith addressed the scrutiny during an interview with Extra and said, “When somebody is 19 years old, they are going to do what they are going to do just like we did. For me, the most important thing was for him to know anytime he can call and I’ll come, whatever happens.”

Even though Bieber can probably rely on his own dad to bail him out should more trouble arise, it no doubt helps Bieber to know that his friend’s dad and a Hollywood A-Lister has his back.  Bieber addressed Smith’s pledge on Twitter with a link to his comments and a short message of, “Will Smith is the man.”

Smith also said, “We think it is hugely important to support young artists.”  Smith’s son Jaden is a rapper and an actor, so it’s easy to see why Smith is so concerned about the scrutiny Bieber and other young stars are receiving.  While Jaden has never gotten any press for getting into trouble, the young Smith is only 14, so it could be a matter of time before his dad is jumping to his defense instead of his buddy’s.

Jada Pinkett Smith isn’t being quiet about how the press treats young stars, either.  Pinkett Smith posted an essay to Facebook where she compared the headlines to “cyber-bullying,” which she says was fueled by headlines she saw about Taylor Swift, Bieber and other young celebrities.
