"Betrayal" will play a limited 14-week run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
An official press release on Friday confirmed that Daniel Craig will be working with his real-life wife Rachel Weisz in Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal.” According to Reuters, Craig last appeared on Broadway in 2009’s “A Steady Rain.”
Weisz is no stranger to acting either, having won an Oscar for the 2005’s “The Constant Gardener.” Reuters reports that Craig and Weisz fell in love with each other while filming “Dream House.” The talented actors married in 2011.
Normally a taboo topic for married couples, “Betrayal” is all about adultery. The play is about a publisher whose wife is having an affair with his friend. Regardless of the topic, Weisz told E! News earlier this year that she and Craig wanted to star in the play and were keeping their fingers crossed that they’d be given the roles of the publisher and his wife.
According to Reuters, Rafe Spall, who recently appeared in “Life of Pi,” will star as the publisher’s literary-agent friend.
Craig recently starred as James Bond in “Skyfall,” the most successful film in the history of the 007 franchise. According to the Telegraph, “Skyfall” topped the $1 billion mark at the global box office by the end of 2012. The movie’s success led some people to wonder whether Craig is the best 007 of all time. Even former Bond actor Roger Moore thinks that Craig deserves that honor.
Is it a good idea for Craig to act in a Broadway play with his real-life wife? Is Craig the best Bond of all time? Will the play’s visibility be increased by the success of “Skyfall?” Share your thoughts in the comments section.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that “Betrayal” will play a limited 14-week run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, beginning on October 1 and ending on January 5. “Betrayal” first appeared on Broadway in 1980 and returned in 2000.
