Will Arnett will join the cast of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.'

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the craze of the late 80s and early 90s.  The popular comic book series turned into a wildly popular TV show, which spawned three movies before dying out.  Like many other fads from that time period, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is making a comeback with both a TV show on Nickelodeon and a major motion picture.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is being produced by Michael Bay of the Transformers series and is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman, director of Wrath of the Titans.

Casting is underway and so far, two of the lead actors have been named.  Arrested Development’s Will Arnett and Transformer’s Megan Fox are playing two of the leads in the film.  So far Arnett’s role is being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that he won’t be playing the role of Casey, a friend of the turtles.  Fox is taking on the role of news reporter and the turtles’ friend April O’Neil.

It isn’t yet clear why Arnett’s role is a secret, but there is some speculation that Arnett may be providing voice for one of the characters, as he has a lot of experience in this area.  Arnett has provided voice for more than a dozen roles, including the movies Despicable Me and Ratatouille.

Fox’s role in the film may come as a surprise to many fans considering her heated past with Bay.  Fox was the lead female in two movies of the Transformers franchise until she made some unsavory comments about Bay.  In 2011, Fox called Bay “a nightmare to work for,” among other insults and was dropped from the franchise.  Fox later apologized for her remarks, so it must be water under the bridge for the two.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be part live-action and part CG animation, with the turtles and likely some of their foes being the animated parts.  The heroes in a half-shell have already been cast and include Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo and Jeremy Howard as Donatello.  The actors taking on the parts of Sensei Splinter and villain Shredder haven’t yet been named.

The Ninja Turtles film is currently filming in New York City and Paramount projects a release date of June 6, 2014.
