Justin Bieber didn't have the proper documents to bring Mally into Germany
Canadian pop star Justin Bieber’s pet monkey was detained by German customs Thursday, according to New York Daily News. Bieber’s pet capuchin monkey is named Mally. The Daily News reports that Bieber didn’t have the proper documents to bring Mally into the country.
According to the Daily Mail, record producer Jamal Rashid gave Bieber his pet monkey. A source told the Daily Mail that Bieber “will be heartbroken” because he and Mally travel everywhere together.
The Daily Mail also reports that Justin’s attempt to bring Mally into Germany without the proper paperwork could lead to both prosecution and a £10,000 fine. Custom officials in Germany are reportedly in the habit of asking to see paperwork from pet owners, especially if the flight came from outside the European Union.
Bieber better be careful because pet capuchin monkeys can turn on their owners, according to experts. Citing Beth Preiss, a specialist in captive wildlife regulatory issues with the Humane Society of the United States, The Associated Press reports that having a pet capuchin monkey can be dangerous for both the public and its owner. “They can attack, they can spread disease and the average pet owner cannot meet their needs in captivity,” Preiss said.
According to The AP, 21 states prohibit that ownership of pet monkeys. However, approximately 15 states allow monkeys as pets. The other 14 states require permits to own pet monkeys.
Hopefully Bieber’s monkey is never with him when he lashes out at the paparazzi because the monkey could certainly learn to imitate the singer’s aggressive behavior. Here’s to hoping that Mally never turns on Bieber.
