What do you make of the war of words between Fox News and Jim Carrey?
The war of words between Fox News and actor Jim Carrey got a little more heated Friday. The tension stems from a Funny or Die video, called “Cold Dead Hand with Jim Carrey,” in which the comedian mocks former NRA President Charlton Heston and gun owners.
After Fox News slammed Carrey’s depiction of Heston and his criticism of the gun culture in the United States, the actor released a statement through his publicist with a few curve balls of his own. Referring to the conservative news channel as “Fux News,” Carrey called Fox News “a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists.” He also referred to the news channel as “a media colostomy bag” that should be emptied as soon as possible.
He also noted in his statement that it wouldn’t be worth his time to take legal action against Fox News for s0-called “slander.”
Fox News didn’t back down after Carrey’s criticism. “The Five” host Greg Gutfeld said Friday that “Charlton Heston has a brighter future in films than Jim Carrey.” Heston died in 2008.
Gutfeld also responded to Carrey’s veiled threat of legal action, inviting Carrey to “come sue us.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, some people have started auctioning off Carrey memorabilia on Ebay, saying that they would use the money to purchase guns.
Carrey’s Funny or Die video was a spoof of the old comedy show, “Hee Haw.” The comedian played both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, making fun of the late actor’s declaration that pro-gun control people would have to take his gun “from my cold, dead hands.” Fox News and other conservative media groups ripped the actor for making fun of Heston.
What do you make of the war of words between Fox News and Carrey? Will Carrey actually take legal action against Fox News or is he just trying to bring attention to an important issue? Do you agree with any of Carrey’s criticisms of conservative media? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
