Michelle Obama, known as the “first lady of fashion,” once again lived up to her nickname on Inauguration Day 2013. According to CBS News, Mrs. Obama accompanied her husband, President Barack Obama, to Monday’s inaugural festivities in a navy-silk, checkered-patterned coat and dress by designer Thom Browne. The coat and dress were reportedly inspired by a menswear necktie.

“She likes well-tailored clothes, so the inspiration was doing something that looked tailored and structured and fitted through the body and somewhat A-line for the skirt and the dress,” Browne told the Los Angeles Times.

Mrs. Obama attended services with her family at St. John’s Episcopal Church Monday morning. After services, she changed into a pair of boots by designer Reed Krakoff.

Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, could have easily been called the “second lady of fashion” Monday, as her fashion choices were also stunning. According to StyleList, Mrs. Biden attended the 2013 Inaugural Ball in a blue Vera Wang scoop-neck gown.

“What a joy, honor and privilege to have dressed Dr Jill Biden for tonight’s Inauguration. A beautiful, spirited, accomplished woman!” the designer tweeted.

During inaugural festivities earlier in the day, Mrs. Biden wore a silky, silvery coat designed by Lela Rose. The New York Times says that Rose also provided outfits for Jenna and Barbara Bush during a previous inauguration.

Mrs. Obama’s fashion choices mean big money for the fashion designers, according to CBS “This Morning.” A New York University study, cited by “This Morning,” revealed that when Mrs. Obama wears an outfit to an event or interview, it can generate $14 million dollars in value for a company. The study cited a 2008 television appearance, in which the first lady discussed wearing J. Crew. A week later, the company’s stock had climbed 25 percent.

Don’t fret if you missed seeing her outfits on TV or at the parade.

“At the end of the inaugural festivities, the outfit and accompanying accessories will go to the National Archives,” the first lady’s office said
