Rosie O'Donnell and wife now have five children.
Comedian Rosie O’Donnell and wife Michelle Rounds have welcomed daughter Dakota home this week, according to Access Hollywood. An O’Donnell rep revealed the news to Access on Wednesday. This is the couple’s fourth adopted child.
Born last Saturday, O’Donnell’s rep told Access that Dakota is a “happy and healthy” baby at five pounds, five ounces.
O’Donnell posted a photo of herself and Rounds with their new baby on Instagram Wednesday.
“We r thrilled to announce the arrival of r daughter Dakota -#withloveandthanks — AMEN,” read a caption accompanying the photo.
O’Donnell, who has nearly 600,000 Twitter followers, confirmed the adoption of Dakota on the social media platform Wednesday.
According to CNN, O’Donnell and her wife were married in June 2012, exchanging vows during a quiet ceremony before Rounds underwent surgery for desmoid tumors.
“Desmoid tumors, odd and curious beasts, strong and sneaky, a non cancer that acts cancerous,” O’Donnell wrote on her blog in 2012, explaining her wife’s condition to interested readers. “Only 900 cases a year in the US, an orphan disease — beyond rare, only 3 people per million get this, michelle is one of them.”
The Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation notes that desmoid tumors are considered benign but that they still can be dangerous because they grow rapidly just like cancer.
Rounds wasn’t the only one with health issues in 2012.
Rosie suffered a heart attack in August and later told People magazine that she wanted to work hard at getting herself healthy.
“I will gladly stay home,” O’Donnell said at the time. “I want to try to work hard at getting myself healthy, on Mich and I getting started and maybe finding a baby.”
Last year was also a tough year for O’Donnell when it came to keeping a job. Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network cancelled O’Donnell’s “The Rosie Show” in March 2012.
New York real estate mogul Donald Trump jumped at the opportunity to slam O’Donnell for the demise of her talk show.
“Rosie O’Donnell has failed again,” he said via Twitter. “Her ratings were abysmal and Oprah cancelled her on Friday night. When will media executives learn that Rosie just hasn’t got it.”
However, Trump wished O’Donnell well after her heart attack.
“@Rosie, get better fast. I’m starting to miss you!” Trump tweeted to Rosie’s surprise.
“Well thank u Donald – i must admit ur post was a bit of a shock…r u trying to kill me? xx” O’Donnell tweeted in response.
O’Donnell and Rounds are also parents to adopted children Parker, Chelsea and Blake as well as Vivienne Rose, who longtime partner Kelli Carpenter gave birth to back in 2002.
