Bieber teases Timberlake's first single since 2006.
Are Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake planning to team-up for a song? Not for the time being, but who knows, anything is possible with these two pop superstars.
According to MTV News, Timberlake released a minute-long video Thursday, announcing that new music from him can be expected shortly.
“I’ve only done two albums in 10 years,” Timberlake said in the video posted on his official website. “What does the next decade mean for me?”
While Timberlake’s return to the world of music is certainly newsworthy, is was made even more buzzworthy when Bieber tweeted a response to Timberlake’s announcement.
“@jtimberlake @Timbaland i have heard some stuff. u got a good reason to be ready. #greatmusic,” Bieber tweeted Thursday.
Although the Canadian singer didn’t get his start on the Mickey Mouse Club, (he was actually discovered in 2008 by American talent manager Scooter Braun), Bieber has, in many ways, taken the reins from Timberlake. Now, it appears that Timberlake is ready to take back the reins from Bieber.
While Bieber may have more than twice as many Twitter followers as Timberlake (32 million to 15 million), the Canadian recording artist admitted recently that growing up, he idolized the former member of ‘N Sync.
“He was young, and he did it and he was really amazing and had such amazing music,” Bieber told MTV News’ Sway when asked if the former member of the Mickey Mouse Club had greatly influenced his music. “I can’t say I would be upset when someone compares me to him — I just feel like my music is going a completely different route. But definitely, hat goes off to him.”
Bieber doesn’t have a problem with people comparing him to Timberlake and neither does his manager, Scooter Braun.
“I think the comparison is a huge honor,” Braun told MTV News. “That is an iconic artist and someone who, when I was growing up, really set the tone for stars the same way Justin Bieber is for his generation.”
While a collaboration between Bieber and Timberlake seems unlikely at this point, rumors are spreading that Jay Z and Beyonce Knowles will make an appearance on Timberlake’s first new single since 2006.
According to Hollywood Life, Justin’s new single may involve rapper Jay Z and Beyonce. Back in December, Perez Hilton noted that Beyonce and Jay-Z were seen in the studio together. A follow-up report said that Timberlake was also in the studio with the rapper and his wife.
Shortly before Timberlake’s announcement, music producer Carl Paul tweeted, “MADE A MOVIE WIT THE LEGEND TIMBALAND GOT SUM HEAT COMIN SOON BEYONCÈ, JAY-Z, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IM WORKIN #HowBoutU.” Hollywood Life reports that Paul’s tweet deleted rather quickly.
Timberlake has been taking some time off from his music career to focus on his acting career. During his time off, he has made numerous appearances on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” The former boy band member has entertained viewers with creative skits, that combine his talents for singing and acting. There are even some television critics who think Timberlake has replaced comedian Steve Martin as the greatest SNL host of all time.
Whether or not the world is ready for Timberlake’s return to music, he thinks he’s ready. “To whom it may concern…I think I’M READY!” he tweeted Thursday. Judging by the buzz generated by his announcement, the rest of the world is ready too.
Timberlake’s new single will be released at midnight on Monday, January 14. At this time it’s unclear whether the single will feature Jay-Z and Beyonce. Perhaps Bieber will join in the on the fun too.
