Update: Contactmusic.com reports that porn site bangyoulater.com is offering Nick Stahl a free iPad so that he can “do [his] private business in a tranquil setting,” according to TMZ.

“The Terminator 3” actor Nick Stahl is not heading into the New Year on a good note. Mr. Stahl was arrested for allegedly “touching himself” at a porn shop on Thursday, according to TMZ. Police told the website that vice officers were conducting a routine check of a porn shop in Hollywood early in the evening and discovered Mr. Stahl alone in a private booth, committing a “lewd act.”

The actor was reportedly cited and released from police custody several hours after being arrested. As he left the jail, Mr. Stahl told a TMZ camera guy that the incident was a “misunderstanding.”

TMZ also learned that one of the undercover officers who arrested “The Terminator 3” actor, also took Fred Willard into custody earlier in the year for similar behavior in an adult theater.

Whether Mr. Stahl will be able to avoid criminal prosecution by signing up for a “pre-filing diversion program,” just like the one Mr. Willard was offered, has yet to be determined.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Mr. Stahl was videotaped walking off into the darkness after being released from police custody.

The LA Times notes that 2012 has been a year full of strange behavior for the 33-year-old actor. Mr. Stahl disappeared for more than a week in May, forcing police to search for him on Los Angeles’ skid row. The actor eventually contacted friends to say that he was alright.

Mr. Stahl’s arrest for allegedly “touching himself” at a porn shop led to a variety of humorous reactions online, including a desperate plea from Perez Hilton, urging the actor to seek professional help.

“Please PLEASE seek some professional help because if you feel the urge to tame your one-eyed dragon outside the privacy of your own home, then you obviously have some deep-seeded issues that are not being addressed!” Perez wrote on PerezHilton.com. “And ok, obviously many a man enjoys some gentleman’s time in those porn booths, but we don’t understand why Nick couldn’t just wait to get home to relieve his sexual stress?!”

Of course, Mr. Stahl’s arrest is not the first time or the last time that a celebrity will embarrass him or herself in public. Earlier this month, for example, “Twilight” actor Bronson Pelletier was arrested for meth possession and peeing in public. Mr. Pelletier was reportedly kicked off a flight and told to wait for another one in the terminal. Too drunk to find the bathroom, the “Twilight” actor relieved himself in public.
