Ashton Kutcher files for divorce from Demi Moore.
Ashton Kutcher has filed for divorce from Demi Moore, according to People. TMZ reports that Kutcher filed the divorce documents in L.A. County Superior Court Friday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Sources tell TMZ that Kutcher waited because he wanted to give Moore the chance to file the divorce documents first.
In November 2011, the once-happy couple announced that their six-year-long marriage had come to an end.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton,” said Moore in a statement at the time. “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
Although Kutcher and Moore don’t have any kids, the actress has three children from her second marriage to actor Bruce Willis.
“This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation,” Moore added.
The breakup came on the heels of reports that Kutcher had slept with Sara Leal, a part-time model, in September after an all-night party at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.
“We had sex twice,” Leal told Britain’s Sun. “Everything felt natural. We were having a good time. One thing led to another. He was good but it wasn’t weird or perverted or creepy. I was attracted to him, and he was attracted to me.”
In many ways, 2012 has been a great year for Kutcher and a not-so-great year for Moore. For starters, Kutcher is dating his “That ’70s Show” co-star, Mila Kunis. The Kutcher-Kunis relationship, however, hasn’t made his ex-wife too happy, according to RadarOnline.
A source told the website that Moore is “devastated” that Kutcher is dating Kunis.
“Demi is devastated that Ashton has moved on so quickly and is dating Mila,” the source said. “She is beyond heartbroken. Even though Ashton cheated on her all the time, it was with random girls, it wasn’t a relationship like it is with Mila and that is what is killing Demi now.”
Kutcher was also named TV’s highest paid actor by Forbes. The former male model reportedly raked in $24 million between May 2011 and May 2012.
Moore, on the other hand, suffered a number of setbacks in 2012. The actress checked into a treatment facility in January to deal with the “stresses in her life.”
Some speculated that her relationship with Kutcher was destined for trouble because of their age difference (a 16-year age difference).
“Even when great effort is expended to look as young as possible, it is undeniable that it’s more difficult for couples to make things work when the difference in their ages is great,” the Daily Mail’s Linda Blair wrote in October 2011 after reports of Kutcher’s unfaithfulness made headlines.
