Frankie Muniz says he suffered a "mini stroke" late last week.
Actor Frankie Muniz of “Malcolm in the Middle” fame suffered a serious health scare late last week, according to TMZ.
“I was in the hospital last Friday. I suffered a ‘Mini Stroke,’ which was not fun at all. Have to start taking care of my body! Getting old!” he tweeted Tuesday.
Sources tell TMZ that Mr. Muniz was rushed to the emergency room last Friday after he started having trouble speaking and understanding words. While doctors reportedly told the actor that he suffered a mini stroke, they aren’t sure what exactly caused the serious health scare.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, a stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain stops. A stroke is also referred to as a “brain attack.” The U.S. NLM notes that high blood pressure is the number one risk factor for strokes, but diabetes, a family history of stroke, atrial fibrillation, high cholesterol and race are also considered major risk factors.
Mr. Muniz’s band, Kingsfoil, is scheduled to begin touring this Friday but his mini stroke may prevent him from letting things get too crazy.
Mr. Muniz’s fiance, Elycia Marie Turnbow, tweeted an Instagram of the bed-ridden star along with the following message: “Please be ok.” The former child actor proposed to Ms. Turnbow last October. The relationship between the two has been a bit rocky at times, as Mr. Muniz allegedly held a loaded gun to his head last February and later hit Ms. Turnbow, according to a police report obtained by TMZ.
Mr. Muniz had the lead role in “Malcolm in the Middle” for six years and acted in movies like “Big Fat Liar” and “Agent Cody Banks.” When the show ended, the former child actor reportedly dedicated himself to his goal of becoming a professional race car driver.
